Detroit River Walleye
As soon as the ice stops coming down the river, the fishing starts and we head down to the Detroit River. A typical year usually starts with a slower bite with bigger fish. This transforms into more action with typically smaller fish as the season goes on. The end of March to the beginning of April is the best time to be on the river to catch a trophy walleye. Vertical jigging is the preferred method for this type of fishing. While vertical jigging seems simple, a lift and drop presentation, many anglers take awhile to get the hang of it. The current and wind often make jigging a challenge. This style of river fishing requires a properly designed boat to be able to slip the current and find the fish. The Evil Eyes Lund Boat along with St. Croix and Fenwick Jigging Rods are our equipment of choice. We will use live minnows with our 1/2oz to 3/4oz jig heads. (jig heads are available for purchase on our products page)
